Our story

Founded by operators, for founders.

Arbor started with a simple observation: founders between Seed and Series B deserve the same finance function the big companies take for granted — without hiring a department to get it.

Origins

Built inside the
companies we serve.

Two decades of doing this job from the inside, a gap we kept seeing, and a team built to close it. This is how Arbor came to be.

Chapter 1

Two decades in the numbers

Mike began in assurance and advisory at Deloitte, moved to BMO to work on technology investment planning, and then spent years inside growth-stage companies — closing the books, building the model, sitting in the board meeting.

Chapter 2

The gap we kept seeing

Somewhere between Seed and Series A, founder-run finance stops scaling. The close slips, the model becomes a spreadsheet nobody wants to open, and the board question nobody can answer arrives anyway. Hiring a full department to fix it made no sense at that stage.

Chapter 3

Arbor is founded

So we built the team we wished those companies had: bookkeeping through to CFO work under one engagement, run by people who had done the job on the inside. Hope joined as a founding member and designed the delivery process every client now runs on.

Chapter 4

The first founders

Metafold, NewSmile, agora.xyz, Chexy — design software to D2C orthodontics to onchain governance to fintech. Different problems, the same close, the same model, the same two people on the call.

Today

One team, ledger to board

Four disciplines under one monthly fee, scoped to your volume and entities. Start with the books; add a controller or a CFO when the round needs one. We are still the ones who pick up the phone.

Founding team

Two people on every call.

Not a rotating bench. The founders who scoped your engagement are the ones who close your books and sit in your board meeting.
